Many previous numerical modeling studies have been conducted to improve the performance of the electrostatic precipitators (EPs) which are used widely in industries to control particulate matter emissions. In this study, a 2-D numerical model was developed to predict the fine particle collection efficiency in a new type of EPs, wire-on-plate electrostatic precipitator (WOP-EP). The schematic diagram of the present WOP-EP is shown in figure 1, with the channel dimension of 20mm in height, 50mm in width and 180mm in length. Four stainless steel (SS) wires (0.3mm in diameter) were mounted on the polypropylene (PP) top-wall across the channel width. The distances of discharge wires to the collection electrode and the wire to wire are 20mm and 40 mm, respectively.
