Adsorption of Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons to Particles Generated from Humic-Like Substances: Preliminary Results of Chamber Study
Humic-like substances (HULIS) in atmospheric aerosols is heterogeneous organic matter and some structural properties of the HULIS are similar to those of soil and aquatic humic substances. Many studies showed interactions of organic pollutants with soil and aquatic humic substances, suggesting that the HULIS also adsorb the organic pollutants. The adsorption ability of the HULIS might play an important role in transportation and health effects of organic pollutants. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the adsorption of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to the HULIS particles.
