The coordination of local initiatives with public institutions has been a constant challenge for the policy implementation of community relations and corporate social responsibility of mining companies, especially to combine the interests and social assets of communities around the environmental education.This present article describes the experience developed by Minera Los Pelambres (MLP), about community initiatives on environmental education, the coordination with public institutions and the inclusion of several managers from the same company around community projects.The development of this article begins with a description of the main environmental education initiatives presented and implemented by communities, followed by a description of the relationship policy of the company and its relationship with them, continuing the development and analysis of procedures and success factors, which has been observed in the implementation of the initiatives as well as the involvement of the provincial public institutions such as the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF), Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG), City Hall, technical educational establishments and proper levels of the company in the management of environment and external affairs.Finally, the review of the processes of participation and the performance of its actors, give us significant learning for the future implementation of new challenges of working together around local initiatives on environmental education, identifying barriers and proposing methodologies to guide the learning processes , dialogue and agreements to reach common goals.
