The Dielectric Withstanding Voltage (DWV) test showed that the different kinds of FOD did not significantly degrade the dielectric strength of conformal coatings when present in small amounts, typical of levels found on production hardware, FOD in silicone conformal coatings had no significant impact on dielectric strength, Urethane and acrylic coatings appeared to perform similarly with respect to dielectric strength when FOD was present, No failures were noted for the white Taklon fibers, The results of this study show that natural brush bristles should not be allowed to bridge leads or conductors on printed circuit assemblies, especially on high voltage assemblies such as power supplies.
