This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of onion extract and antibiotic on growth yeild, and carcass characteristics, in broiler chicks. A total of one hundred and ninety twol-day old mixed sex broiler chicks (Ross 308) were randomly assigned to four experimental groups. Each treatment was included of 4 replicate. Experimental groups included control group (C), the group receiving 300 g/ton Virginiamycin (A), the group receiving basal diet + onion extract as 1 % in drink water (B) and the group receiving basal diet + onion extract as 2 % in drink water (D). Body weight and feed intake of broilers were measured at d 1, 21, and 42 and feed conversion ratio (FCR) was computed. For measurement of carcass and organ weights, two birds per pen were slaughtered at day 42. The results showed that the use of antibiotic and onion had significant increase (p<0.05) in yield traits. Maximum daily weight gain (46.74gr/day), body weight (2003.07gr), feed intake (87.76gr/day), and the lowest feed conversion ratio (1.88) was related to group B. In general, the results of this experiment showed that onion extract as 1% in drink water can improves the functional parameters of broilers.
