Introduction

This conference, held 19-20 August 2014 as part of the SPIE Optics + Photonics Symposium in San Diego, California, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the University of Arizona's Optical Sciences Center (OSC) by Aden Meinel. The conference surveyed the progression of OSC from a small group of talented faculty to its present status as a world renowned center of learning in optics and photonics.
