This presents a simple method to derive separately the empirical equations of lignin, cellulose, and hemicelluloses dissolution during terahydroxyfurfuryl alcohol (THFA) organosolv pulping of rice straw catalyzed with hydrochloric acid. In the process, we found that except for the empirical equations of cellulose content having a lower coefficient of correlation, r, value, the other r values for the empirical equations of lignin and hemicellulose were high. Furthermore, comparing the derived values to the experimental data, the deviations were all within ± 5%. Thus, the derived equations are suitable for use in the control of THFA/HC1 digestion of rice straw.
