Increasingly stringent environmental legislation on gaseous emissions has been obliging existing LCP’s to retrofit the flue gas treatment facilities. In EU the last legislative reference is the Directive 2010/75/EU (IED) on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control), which has recently completed the legislative framework for new and existing plants. The Directive gives the new emission limits, considering different plant types and fuels, as well as the timing for their application. The Directive is based on the Best Available Techniques (BAT) and Associated Emission Levels (BATAEL). The European directive is also taken as reference by candidate countries for EU membership for the development of their legislation aiming at environment protection. The main purpose of this paper is to provide technical and economic information on the applicable solutions for retrofitting the LCP’s fuelled with solid feedstock in accordance with EU Directive.
