Mess-iN - enhancing the competitiveness of regional SME's through work-place near training in manufacturing metrology

With shallower vertical ranges of manufacture and a growing global exchange of semi-finished products knowledge about manufacturing metrology (MM) becomes more important in many jobs. The variety of specifications requires a well-founded knowledge in order to obtain correct measuring results. Yet there is no specific job description for metrolo-gists and no coherent training schedule exists. Training is mainly provided on the job, through the exchange of information with other co-workers. If the competent person later on leaves the firm that knowledge may be lost and the enterprise loses also a part of its competitiveness. That is especially valid for small and medium size enterprises (SME). The project Mess-iN is targeted toward a better vocational education of employees through the combination of near workplace e-learning and attendance-based seminars in a blended learning arrangement. The project was first launched 2005 in Bavaria.
