This paper provides an overview of how changes in feedstock and environmental regulations could impact the future operation of United States (US)-based delayed coking units (DCU or coker). In this paper, we discuss the impact of processing shale-based crudes, recent environmental regulations and how refiners are planning to implement them. In addition, we discuss possible retrofits that can be implemented on existing cokers that could help optimize the unit's performance.
