With the development of the proteome and biopharmaceuticals,peptides with unique properties have become one of the most popular research topics in the past decade, and a large number of structurally diverse peptides and peptide derivatives are required. Consequently, peptide modification, i.e., making peptide synthesis a more powerful tool to create peptides with exact characteristics for different requirements, has also been attracting considerable interest, especially for analyzing naturally occurring peptides or proteins; improving peptide availability, solubility, activity, and stability against proteases; and tailoring the structure and function of active peptides. As promoted by progress in organic chemistry, increasing numbers of functional molecules or groups for some given applications can be appended on the N-/C-terminus of peptide or common amino acid moieties.
