The intraocular pressure (IOP) as the main and only modifiable risk factor in glaucoma is of essential interest and significance for disease management. Fluctuations during the 24-hour time and from day to day are well known. Their impact as an independent risk factor is controversy. Usually done IOP measurements 2-3 times during the office hours give only very basic information about the behaviour of the 24-hour IOP. Therefore contact lenses with strain gauges were developed for 24-hour use. They do not measure the real IOP, they measure the change of the curvature of the cornea due to changes of the IOP continuously. Today their use in an ordinary office patient is not recommended because of lack of reproducibility and validity study results. Safety and tolerability of the Triggerfish contact lens, a product with CE mark, is good.
