Ultrasonic treatment has positive effects on the flotation of minerals and coals, such as cavitation, surface cleaning/cracking, reagents emulsification. Ultrasonic treatment is also assumed to have significant effects on the water film thinning and rupture that hence affects the contacting behavior between bubble and mineral surface. However, there is no visible evidence regarding the above-mentioned assumption to date. This paper designed an experimental apparatus to obverse the contacting behavior between bubble/oil-coated-bubble/oil-droplet on the glass surfaces of various hydrophobicities with/without ultrasonic treatment. The difference in the contact angle of bubble/oil-droplet on the glass surface between using ultrasonic treatment or non-ultrasonic treatment was small. However, the difference in the contact angle of oil-coated-bubble on the glass surface between using ultrasonic treatment or non-ultrasonic treatment was great. The enhancement in the flotation of mineral with ultrasonic treatment may be achieved through the enhancement of spreading of collector-coated-bubbles on the mineral surface.
