A novel method is presented to simulate densely woven stents used in the parent artery reconstruction of aneurysms appearing on the large arteries of the brain. Using computational fluid dynamics in combination with measurements the effects of stenting on the hemodynamic processes are studied. The hydraulic properties of the applied stents are first measured and the acquired results are applied in the simulations. One case is presented with a large aneurysm sac, in which various conditions are simulated. The results show overall decrease of the wall shear stress, but localized areas of increase on the sac was also found. Additional stents tend to have small effect on the intensity of the flow inside the aneurysm sac after the first stent is introduced. The results are in good agreement with the literature and medical findings and our method provides a deep insight in the hemodynamic processes of the specific endovascular treatment.
