Opportunities for the social reintegration of the Roma ethnic communities

The restructuring of the Romanian social-economic system triggered changes on the labour market, led to the occurrence of unemployment as mass phenomenon and generated powerful impediments that have restrained the social reinsertion and the access to labour market for vulnerable groups (Roma populations, senior citizens, youth, rural inhabitants, persons with low education or qualifications level). The purpose of our research was to identify the favouring factors related to Roma vulnerable groups' social reintegration in Mehedinti county. The research objectives refer to the analysis of the causes triggering social reinsertion, the poor performances on the labour market, in relation with the Roma community, contributing to poverty, inequality and social exclusion in the present social-economic policies. The methodology comprised documents and statistical analysis, sociologic inquiry through in-depth interviews. The conclusions refer to the connection between competencies supply and labour market demand. To find an answer to the existing questions about the Roma vulnerable groups' employment, it is necessary to reach the most detailed awareness of the problems generated by unemployment, labour market (dysfunctionalties elimination, relations optimisation) which depends, in the present context, on two essential factors: degree of the new professional identities' reconstruction, and institutional and legislative reality
