Our work performs a complex analysis of the third-order design parameters and imaging properties of a system of rotationally symmetric tunable-focus fluidic membrane lenses considering all types of primary aberrations. It is shown that spherical aberration of a simple tunable-focus fluidic membrane lens with parabolic surfaces can be corrected, which is not possible with a classical spherical lens. Formulas for the calculation of the third-order (Seidel) aberrations are derived, which can be used for the design of membrane lenses with required imaging properties. The application of derived formulas is shown on examples. Presented third-order aberration analysis may serve for an initial design of optical systems composed of classical fix-focus lenses and tunable fluidic lenses.
