At present service experience of line composite insulators world-wide can be estimated in general as "positive, but limited". Collection and analysis of service experience of composite insulators at DC lines is a "hot" issue for IEC working group 11 dealing with dimensioning of high-voltage insulators intended for use in polluted conditions and for DC systems. Therefore, experience collected at Statnett with different types of composite insulators installed in service for more than 10 years is important to share and to discuss.
