The establishment of Aquilariaspp in producing agarwood is gaining more and more attentionlately, especially with growing interest in agarwood oil extraction. Thus, the oilextractions omehow produces abundant waste of processed agarwood. The intent of this research is toutilize waste from agarwood oil extraction process, where the silica contentin this waste was determined. A preliminary study was conducted on the effect of hydrochl oric acid treatments of agarwood waste on FTIR profile. After soaking over night with different acid concentration; 0.3M, 0.5M and 1M, all the samples were dried and analyzed by using fourier transform infra red (FTIR). The result shows the existence of silicagroup in the waste at 1031 cm-1peak. The highest silica intensity found was 86%, obtained from the sample of agarwood waste treated with 0.3M HCl. However, the intensity decreased proportional to increasing acid concentration due to the decrement of the silica concentration detected by the instrument.
