Automated FTIR spectroscopy measurements, taken in accordance with the EPA protocol for extractive FTIR analyses of gaseous emissions from stationary sources, were used in advanced control strategies to optimize destruction and removal efficiencies (DRE) of a surrogate mixed waste processed in a plasma torch facility. Gaseous emissions samples were extracted 5 ft. 6 in. downstream of the plasma torch furnace. Process optimization was accomplished using CO concentration as a control variable in order to manipulate plasma gas composition, which consisted of either air or N
