The paper discusses the elution of platinum cyanide and palladium cyanide from strong base anion exchange resins, with the use of acidic thiourea, potassium thiocyanate and zinc cyanide. It is shown that thiocyanate ions and zinc cyanide were effective eluants for strong base resins, loaded with platinum cyanide and palladium cyanide. Acidic thiourea, however, was ineffective in eluting platinum cyanide from strong base resins, but could effectively elute palladium cyanide. The concentration of the eluting agents was found to effect the elution of platinum cyanide and palladium cyanide to a noticeable degree, with no significant effect imposed by the elution temperature and flow rate. Platinum cyanide and palladium cyanide could effectively be co-eluted with the base metal cyanides from strong base resins. However no split elution alternative was observed at the elution conditions investigated, due to the rapid elution of both platinum cyanide and palladium cyanide along with the base metal cyanide complexes of copper and iron.
