Large capacity of Ultra supercritical power plant by using larger last stage blade becomes one of the most effective solution for increasing thermal efficiency of the power plant. Hitachi has successfully developed 3000rpm-60inch and 3600rpm-50inch last stage blade and can provide the advantageous 1000MW class steam turbine by with these longer blades. This paper describes that development of the last stage blade and design feature of 1000MW class ultra supercritical steam turbine applying the 60inch/3000rpm last stage blade. About 2.5% of thermal efficiency will be improved by applying advanced steam turbine design compared with previous 1000MW USC design.
