Society and Geomedia-Some Reflections from a Social Theory Perspective

Geoinformation enjoys increasing significance in a host of realms and a variety of ways. The advent of the digital age multiplied the contexts in and purposes for which geoinformation is generated and used. In its broadest sense the term 'geoinformation' denotes any information that has a spatial reference. Such information may come in various formats - verbal/oral, written/printed or digital/coded (GRYL & JEKEL 2012). This paper focuses on geoinformation in digital form.
