For nearly three decades branched polymers have been synthesized using a variety of techniques including divergent and convergent synthesis of dendrimers, self-condensing vinyl polymerization4 and the controlled vinyl co-polymerization of di-vinyl and mono-vinyl monomers. This latter technique has produced nanoparticles from amphiphilic polymers with controlled shape (spheres, dumbbells and clover-leaf structures) in single-pot polymerisations using ATRP.
