Strengthening of the core body muscles, also referred to as core stability training has been recognized as a key component in training programs of human athletes of all levels." Science backed literature on core stability training in the canine does not exist compelling a review of human literature. Core muscles act as a bridge between upper and lower limbs, and force is transferred from the core, often called the powerhouse, to the limbs.1 Core stability is also important in the young canine athleteprior to the beginning of more sport specific training. In the young human athlete, greater core stability is reported to have benefits in sports performance by providing a foundation for greater force production in the upper and lower extremities.2 This is a statement that could be made for the canine athlete also.
