CRYSTAL-SIZE’s EFFECT ON DEFECT AND CRYSTAL STRUCTURE IN NANO- OXIDES OF Ce Zr

摘要

Many oxides as inert supports have been recognized to be active in catalysis. Their crystal structure, phase stability and defect chemistry under catalytic conditions underpin the molecular-surface interactions for optimum catalytic properties. In particular their reduction-and-oxidation (redox) properties can be greatly affected by the crystal-size as in nano-ceria and nano-zirconia. Here we review earlier results on nano-ceria, nano-zirconia and their binary nanoparticles in terms of changes in crystal structure, phase stability and defect concentration as a function of the crystal-size. Hopefully these results lend insights into the redox behavior of nano-oxides during catalytic conditions and to improve their catalytic properties.
