'Russian architecture prototype' in the role of shaping the form of contemporary architecture in Harbin

The paper tries to use the idea of architecture typology basing on the theory of prototype to analyze the "Russian architecture prototype" wildly distributed in Harbin, which is representative by "Russian building", and discuss the "Russian architecture prototype" in the role of shaping the form of contemporary architecture in Harbin. We wish to summarize the former experience and provide reference for architectural creation in Harbin in the future. Harbin is a city with multiple architectural styles. Different buildings show unique characteristics and thus, Harbin combines various styles of architectural form and style without any clutter. On the contrary, the existence of a variety of styles creates a unity because of the influence of the "Russian architecture prototype". First of all, Harbin is known as "Oriental Moscow". Russian culture occupies an important position due to religion, as do the Russian buildings which are considered as a cultural carrier reflecting basic factors including; architectural form, space form, building components, building technology, detailed decoration, building materials, architectural color etc [1]. Secondly the penetration of the "Russian architecture prototype" theory in various styles of architecture and the existence and expression of its factors in modern Harbin, make an interior connection between the different types of buildings. The "Russian architectural prototype" coordinates the overall building style of Harbin. That is to say, the "Russian architecture prototype" is the creator of a city style and represents the architectural culture in Harbin. In that way we have to take the effect of the "Russian architecture prototype" into consideration during the procedure of shaping the image of contemporary city buildings in Harbin.
