Low-energy spectra of 4n nuclei are constructed in a formalism of four-body correlated structures ("quartets"). Quartets are assumed to describe the lowest states of nuclei with four active particles outside the inert core of reference. States of 4n nuclei are represented as superpositions of states constructed in terms of these quartets. We discuss some applications of the formalism for nuclei in the sd shell.
