Undoubtedly, the core function of the Tribunal under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea ("Convention") is to settle disputes arising out of the application and interpretation of its provisions. This is confirmed by Section 2 of Part XV of the Convention which mainly contains provisions relating to the contentious competence of the Tribunal.
