The demand for reduction in the use of pesticides in agriculture increases interest in natural substances for the control of plant diseases as alternative measures to the use of synthetic fungicides that can result in problems like environmental pollution, phytotoxicity and selection of resistant pathogen populations. The potential role of essential oils to control plant pathogens have been evaluated in several recent works. In particular the antimicrobial activity of Tea Tree Oil and its components have been evaluated against three different classes of fungal pathogens that are responsible for relevant diseases that affect cereal production.
