To get and illustrate cytoplasm fertility polymorphism distribution among Sumfeng cultivars of sugar beet in china, some loci or region correlated with fertility in sugar beet mitochondrial genome and chloroplast genome were analyzed using molecular marker, the result will provide a strategy and foundation for selecting sugar beet male-sterile lines and O-type lines. The gene loci of minisatellite tandem repeat sequences (VNTRs) in the mitochondrial genomes of 73 sugar beet varieties(lines) were amplificated by PCR method, the reserve sequences between petG-psbE region in sugar beet chloroplast genomes were analyzed using PCR-RFLP method. All cultivars studied in this paper mainly center around three groups. 21 cultivars possess normal cytoplasm (1 model or 2 model or both). 14 cultivars (lines) only contain the Owen male-sterile cytoplasm. 25 cultivars(lines)contain both normal I model cytoplasm and the Owen cytoplasm, so this 25 cultivars can be used as sugar beet resources for selecting improved O-type varieties (lines). K-5 cytoplasm is first found in sugar beet, it is essential to do more intensive study. S-2 male-sterile cytoplasm is first found in Chinese sugar beet cultivars, it can enrich male-sterile cytoplasm resources of Chinese sugar beet in a short time. Protein bolting analyzing showed that the proteins related with male-sterile only express in plants with the Owen cytoplasm, can't express in plants with 1 or 2 model cytoplasm. The cytoplasm types of Sumfeng varieties (lines) are more single. It is of vital importance to look for new types of cytoplasm to enrich sugar beet resource genetic background. Identifying cytoplasm fertility characters using molecular marker can grasp cytoplasm fertility of germplasm resources fast and exactly, and improve efficiency for breeding sugar beet male-sterile or O-type lines.
