Closing the Metal Loop. A closer look at Metal Recycling in relation to the Electrical Industry within New Zealand

The electrical industry generates recyclable metal containing material every year in New Zealand. Recycling of nonferrous and ferrous metals is essential to reduce dependence on finite sources of primary materials. Consideration should be given to how scrap metal arising from the electrical industry is recycled and to the tools that can be used to aid in traceability and transparency to ensure that profitability is maximised and the environmental impact of the industry is minimalized. This paper examines recycling within New Zealand from the perspective of a metal merchant and end consumer in relation to the electrical industry.
