Initiative to demonstrate the role of unmanned systems in wildland fire fighting and other public safety applications: Fire Fighting Tabletop Exercise 2010 (FF-TTX10); Live burn demonstrations. Provided an opportunity to investigate the employment of unmanned technologies in wildfire management, including operational response planning and coordination. Identified the technical, regulatory, political, and organizational obstacles that currently inhibit the use of unmanned systems in wildland fire fighting applications. Developed insights and recommendations concerning the prospective operational utility and shortcomings of unmanned systems in firefighting applications and transition to the general civil sector. AUVSI in partnership with the US Forest Service and the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Asymmetric Warfare (NPS CAW).
