Time synchronization in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is necessary because time plays a crucial role for many WSN applications. Various time synchronization schemes for WSN have been proposed. A new time synchronization scheme for WSN is developed, which is energy efficient by reducing communication overhead and has good performance in synchronization accuracy and scalability. Proposed synchronization protocol called Indirect-Broadcast Synchronization (IBS) synchronizes a multi-hop network cluster by cluster with the global time from the referenced node. The simulation test result shows that proposed scheme has better energy efficiency and accuracy than existing protocols.
