In order to design efficient LHTES, numerical models for simulation of phase change processes inside thermal storages are necessary; A new model for simulation of close contact melting was introduced; The model takes the settling of unfixed solid for 1-DOF into account; Numerical simulations of close contact melting and pure convection melting in a rectangular cavity were compared.
