River System Changing impacted by Urbanization: A Case Study of Shanghai

Based on land-use and river changing database, using the shift matrix of land use and Spatial autocorrelation index, this paper analyzes the driven mechanism of river area changing in Puxi and Pudong of Shanghai. It shows that both water surface ratio and river network density of Shanghai are reducing from 2000 to 2007, as well as the changing of spatial concentration. In Puxi water area, the driven factors of river area reducing focus on urban construction land developing, but in Pudong water area, the driven factors attribute on developing of agricultural land and urban construction land. This paper also shows that there is not direct relationship between speed of urban expansion and the spatial distribution of river area changing.
