Solar cells based on Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) chalcopyrite absorbers have demonstrated high conversion efficiencies up to 19.9% (1). Electrodeposition is a major technology to achieve low-cost production of these absorbers (2). However, obtaining a semiconductor material with good properties is still a challenge. In particular, for Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin films, co-electrodeposition of the different elements is difficult, essentially due to Ga(III) low reduction potential and its affinity for oxygen.
