摘要

The Mars Science Laboratory's Full-scale Parachute Decelerator Qualification test series was conducted in the 80- by 120-foot Wind Tunnel facility at the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex. The tests were highly demanding and proved to be an interesting example of how additional requirements can emerge from unforeseen circumstances. The success of the tests in the face of these issues demonstrates some valuable ways test teams can work cooperatively throughout the planning and execution of a test to leverage flexibility and minimize overtime needs while not compromising results. The methods employed in dealing with the various challenges encountered during this unique test are discussed, with emphasis on lessons learned that possess more general applicability for improving test execution throughout the Test and Evaluation community.
