Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) as a material of construction finds use in the manufacture of equipment for Mineral Processing situations where the corrosion resistance requirements of the processes involved take precedence over strength considerations. This is in marked variation to traditional understanding of steel based design where strength is the primary consideration. Operations like Solvent Extraction associated with the extraction of Nickel, Cobalt and Copper are characterized by relatively low operation temperatures (60 - 120° C), low pressures (100 KPa -1000 KPa) but make use of corrosive solvents. Steel as a material of fabrication does not lend itself to use in such processes. GRP is the favoured material of choice for operations like solvent extraction.
