For plasma facing components (PFC) in fusion devices, tungsten joined to a Cu heat sink with tungsten-copper functionally graded material (FGM) between PFC (tungsten) and the heat sink (Cu alloy) is of particular interest. In this study, W/Cu FGM was developed by powder metallurgy process. To minimize the mismatch of thermal expansion coefficient, the W/Cu FGM was manufactured from nano tungsten coated copper powder with a range of compositions from 90W-1 OCu to 65W-35Cu in weight percentage. To characterize the W/Cu FGM, microstructures of W/Cu FGM were investigated and hardness was measured.
