Fuel cells present a promising solution for a zero-emission and low noise on board power generation as an alternative to a conventional auxiliary power unit (APU). The byproducts of fuel cell operation, water and oxygen depleted air, are valuable resources on board of an aircraft, effecting lower take off weight and less exhaust emissions. Apart from that fuel cell systems could provide a feasible power source to propel light aircrafts.
