Pulverized fuel combustion systems are widely used in thermal power plants. Plant performances vary with solid fuel properties. It is difficult to evaluate the effect of fuel properties using large scale facilities for the evaluation. We examined fundamental experimental techniques and models to evaluate NOx reaction mechanisms, carbon burnout, and ignition performances of solid fuels, such as coal, biomass, and petroleum coke.
