摘要

This contribution attempts to demonstrate the particular value of elementary mechanical models in the identification and interpretation process of complex engineering geological settings. Two classical configurations are considered, firstly the problem of a circular hole in a stressed plate and secondly, the stress redistribution problem at the tip of a shear plane. Relevant prototype engineering geological situations are identified. A series of case studies is presented, amongst them geological underground repositories, tunnels and a rock-fill dam. Of concern are also in situ stress measurements. Overall, the contribution may be considered as an appeal to strengthen the scientific-technological base of engineering geology.
