The porous Al2O3 ceramics with macro lamellar pores were prepared via freeze casting process received due to the phase separation of the water- based Al2O3 ceramic slurry. The mechanical properties results showed that the porosity and the strength of the porous Al2O3 ceramics were 37.04 % and 31.0 MPa, respectively. The cytotoxicity, acute hemolysis, as well as skin sensitization tests were employed to characterize the biocompatibility of the porous Al2O3 ceramics, the results indicated that the porous Al2O3 ceramics have good biocompatibility and can be used as bone scaffolds in the future.
