INTERCROPPING OF SUGAR BEET WITH SUGARCANE UNDER DIFFERENT SPACING REGIMES

摘要

Intercropping research studies were carried out at The K.J.Somaiya Institute of Applied agricultural Research Sameerwadi to identify the feasibility of intercropping sugar beet with sugarcane under different spacing regimes in medium deep black soil. The research study consisted of three planting methods with intercropping of varied rows of sugar beet. The results showed that the intercrop could successfully be grown in between sugarcane rows during early growth stages without much adverse effect on sugarcane yield. Higher productivity was noticed under paired row system of cane planting. However crop density spacing and spatial arrangements of the crop in mixture have to be organized to minimize the interference from each other and also to get maximum productivity.
