The question of the influence of the surface quality on the heat transfer in spray cooling of hot surfaces has not yet been answered. The results published for a single droplet impingement are not applicable to spray cooling. The surface roughness is expected to influence Leidenfrost temperature and heat transfer in both areas below and above the Leidenfrost temperature. The program of experiments shows how the boiling heat transfer and Leidenfrost temperature depends on surface quality. The program used three types of nozzles; full cone and flat jet water nozzles and one mist nozzle with flat jet and wide spray angle.
