Signal upsampling in machine diagnostics - an experimental approach

Upsampling is a pretty commonly used term in field of signal processing. It may be necessary e.g. when processing a signal sampled at fairly low frequency to be played by a sound board. In field of machine diagnostics, applications of upsampling techniques are very rare, and when there is a need for high number of samples oversampling is used instead. This can be a reasonable solution as well, but especially when operating on low end hardware using a low sampling frequency may be necessary, and thus upsampling might be useful. This study introduces some demonstrations of applying upsampling on field of machine diagnostics. The signals in question are actual acceleration signals measured in order to perform research about condition monitoring. Potential of upsampling as a tool of modern machine diagnostics is briefly discussed.
