Based on the analysis of the meshing theory and tooth profiles of the existing silent chain, this paper puts forward the meshing mechanism of the new high-speed rounded-pin silent chain meshing with involute sprockets using alternately outer and inner flanks of the link plates. The new silent chain is compatible with the inner and outer flanks of the link plates, the new silent chain is used especially for high-speed operation conditions, the polygon effect, shock and vibration can be reduced, the noise and wear can be decreased. The new silent chain drive can fundamentally improve the high-speed transmission performance of the silent chain. The paper analyzes the meshing and roll-cutting theory of the silent chain, sprocket and hob-cut, and the harmonic relationships of the main parameters of the three components are established, the correct meshing conditions of the silent chain, sprocket and tool rack are put forward, and the corresponding analytical expression are derived that can be used to guide the design and calculation of the new silent chain, sprocket and tool rack.
