A facile micelle template-hydrothermal method was used to synthesize hydroxyapatite nanorods with good thermal stability and biocompatibility. A novel micelle precursor consisting of CTAB/cyclohexane/ethanol/aqueous phase was hydrothermally treated at 150°C. XRD patterns and FTIR spectra showed that the synthesized products display the structure and main vibration modes of hydroxyapatite (HA). TEM images showed that the products exhibit elongated rod morphology. Bio-mineralization in simulated body fluid (SBF) immersion indicated that the surface of sintered HA is entirely covered with the apatite layer after 21 days immersion.
