Self-evident Public Transport

'Self-evident public transport' (self-evident PT) literally means that public transport speaks for itself, without needing a translation. So that even a child, your grandmother or a neighbour who is devoted to a car can understand it. The result is public transport that is understandable to everyone. This means that the current mental barrier 'public transport is a hassle' falls away and motorists no longer feel insecure in a bus or train. Questions like 'is this indeed the right bus' or 'will this bus also pass by the centre' no longer exist. The solution for a self-evident public transport does not primarily lie in technology (new media, new displays, new buses, etc.). The solution lies in a review of the perception of public transport. Key words are freedom and simplicity. Simplicity in the route net, time schedules and travel information. And also simplicity in the communication language used, in the connection with the local society, and in organisation. Self-evident PT is therefore suited for the optimisation of PT in both industrialised countries and developing nations.
