Opportunities for Romanian Rural Tourism Integration in the European Circuit

Since the 60s and 70s in Europe has been taking place the breakdown of traditional tourism models. The new social structure, the negative impacts on ecosystems caused by mass tourism and, more recently, the effects of the global financial and economic crisis have created a favorable climate for the development of the individualized, specialized and ecological tourism forms. Using European and national databases, the present paper aims at highlighting the opportunities for Romanian tourism integration in the European circuit and identifying measures necessary for making available the huge natural and anthropogenic potential existing in Romanian rural areas. The conclusions of the research entitle us to assert that the two objectives are achievable within a time horizon of about five years.
